Clifton St Johns Church's much acclaimed Proms in the Paddock was cancelled in July due to torrential rain. It did, however, go ahead on Bank Holiday Saturday when over 350 people braved the elements on yet another very wet evening.

As people queued for the 6.30pm entry, the rain had been falling for some time, and it only got worse!!.  However, for those appropriately dressed, everybody it seemed, it was a minor inconvenience, and the picnics went ahead, albeit under a myriad of umbrellas.  There was an abundance of good spirit and good humour, and many sported patriotic outfits.

The Clifton and Lightcliffe band were sheltered from the rain, and gave a rousing performance, including solo items from Mark Crisp, and later, The Thunder and Lightning Polka - very apt!!

Soloist, Rachel Crisp, was once again in great voice, despite the rain falling around her - not ideal conditions for a star soloist who had to be sheltered with an umbrella every time she performed!

The evening concluded with the traditional Proms finale and an amazing firework display. Then the rain stopped!!!

Under the circumstances, we cannot over-emphasise our grateful thanks to all those who supported this event, displaying the traditional British resolve of not being beaten by the weather.

It surely cannot rain again next year!
